Laying out Roadmap for Bharti-Walmart retail alliance
- Bharti Retail will invest $2-2.5 billion, employ 60,000 people and use around 10 million square feet by 2015 for its operation.
- It will offer direct and indirect employment opportunities, while attracting huge investments and providing linkages with farmers and artisans.
- The group has projected revenues of $5 billion by 2015 from the new business to be operational in the first quarter next year.
- Initially it will open stores-hyper-markets, super markets and convenience stores-in all Indian cities with a population of over one million.
- With no government regulation against the use of Walmart’s brand name in India, the group is awaiting consumer research to branding the stores.
